Banyak Surf Resort – surf and stay above the water

Imagine waking up above a tropical bay, having breakfast with a sea view and then boarding a boat in search of great waves. A holiday at Banyak Surf Resort is all about surfing, nature and relaxed island life. The resort is in the Bay of Plenty, south of Tuangku Island, in Indonesia’s Banyak Islands near Sumatra. A special destination for surfers who enjoy travelling beyond the busy tourist areas.
Stay in an overwater bungalow
You will stay in a bungalow on stilts above the water. The setting makes the sea part of your stay: wake up to views across the bay, enjoy the water during the day and watch the sun disappear beyond the horizon in the evening. The resort presents four accommodation options: Sunrise, Jungle, Ocean and Sunset. The surroundings and outdoor life take centre stage here.
A choice of surf spots within easy reach

The Bay of Plenty breaks, including Gunturs, Lolok Point and Dindos, are around five minutes away by boat. Depending on the swell and wind, trips are also organised to other surf areas, such as Bangkaru with Treasure Island and Cobra, and Sarang Alu with the right-hand wave Lezard Nest. An experienced surf guide helps you choose a suitable spot, allowing you to discover different waves from one base.
This destination is mainly suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. Experience surfing independently is important; the resort recommends that beginners gain more experience first.
A fully catered stay
According to the booking page, the all-inclusive offer includes:
- Accommodation at the resort.
- Three meals a day and snacks between meals.
- Daily boat transport to surf spots both inside and outside the bay.
- Juice, coffee, tea, homemade soft drinks and two beers per person per day.
The published rate is US$170 per person per night. The resort recommends a stay of at least five nights. Transfers to and from the resort are charged separately. The final trip price depends on the length of your stay and the transfer you choose.
Plenty to discover between surf sessions

Paddle a kayak around the bay and along the mangroves, explore the underwater world with a snorkel or go island hopping. Fishing and visits to nearby villages are also possible. After a day on the water, relax at the resort and enjoy the sunset.
Getting to the resort
You can reach the resort via Nias, Simeulue or Singkil. From the airport, you travel overland to the harbour and then by boat to Banyak Surf Resort. Your transfer is arranged in advance to fit your arrival. The resort recommends April to October as the best travel period.
Who is this trip for?
For experienced surfers who love spending their days on the water and staying somewhere special. Plenty of surfing, tropical island adventures and time to unwind with the sea all around you: that is a stay at Banyak Surf Resort.
